The Little Things

This page reflects my ongoing health journey and the valuable lessons I’ve learned by remaining open to new ways of managing and reducing my toxic load. Throughout this journey, I’ve noticed significant changes in my physical, mental, emotional, and energetic well-being. Even in my most challenging moments, I’ve discovered there’s always something I can turn to—even if it’s as simple as feeling my breath entering and leaving my body. These practices, which I like to call “The Little Things,” are ones I continue to embrace, not just for maintenance but because I believe they have a cumulative, long-term effect on my overall well-being.

I’ve discovered that by staying open to different approaches, I’m better able to navigate the path I’m on. There are no right or wrong methods here, no “shoulds.” It’s all about doing what feels aligned with you personally in that moment, while remaining open to new ways of being, and feeling that. One of my favourite sayings is, “Nothing changes if nothing changes,” and I know that for those of us on a similar journey, the desire for change is both strong and ever-present. My hope is that by sharing my experiences, you too may find the inspiration and tools to create the changes you seek in your own life.

“Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.”

Body Brushing

I love dry body brushing! It’s such a simple yet powerful practice that not only boosts circulation but also supports lymphatic flow and drainage, which is so important for overall detoxification. The feeling of those bristles moving across my skin creates the most delightful sensation—it’s like a gentle wake-up call for my whole body.

Afterward, I feel so invigorated, like I’ve shed a layer of built-up gunk, leaving me feeling so revitalised and more in tune with my body. I make it a point to do this at least twice a week, and it has become part of my self-care routine. After brushing, I finish with a cold shower, which really completes the experience, leaving me feeling completely refreshed, both physically and energetically. There’s something about that rush of cold water after the brush that makes me feel so alive and in the moment.

This is a ritual I now cherish.

Scalp Health

Just like our bodies, our scalps have pressure points that can be stimulated through gentle massage, whether by brushing or washing our hair. One of the most effective ways to detoxify and clear away debris from your scalp is the practice of hair brushing. Taking a few minutes to brush your hair before bed or before a shower not only helps to gently remove buildup but also initiates the exfoliation process. Brushing your hair and scalp can enhance blood circulation and promote lymph flow and drainage. By unclogging pores, it makes it easier for the body to sweat and eliminate toxins.

This practice also helps to distribute natural oils throughout your hair, leaving it nourished and healthy. Many of us find it challenging to visit salons, especially with the chemicals and fragrances often used. While I miss those luxurious scalp massages, I’ve found that hair brushing provides a soothing alternative. I personally find relief from an exposure headache by brushing, then following with a cool rinse.

This is such a simple way to connect with and support a body that supports me.

Hair Love

When you wash your hair, what sensation do you find yourself reaching for? Perhaps it’s that classic, squeaky-clean feeling that makes your scalp tingle, or maybe it’s the soft, silky smoothness that lets your fingers glide effortlessly through each strand, as the conditioner works its magic. For me, the act of massaging and scrubbing my scalp is more than just cleansing; it’s about sparking circulation and bringing life to my scalp as my fingertips gently work away any tension.

This ritual has become a meaningful act of self-care, one that goes beyond just washing away the day. It’s a moment to nourish not just my scalp but my entire being. To fully experience this, I rely on safe, fragrance-free products that align with my values and nurture my body without compromise.  With these, I can truly relax, knowing that each wash supports my well-being in a way that feels so soothing and aligned with my commitment to self-care.

Meditation

For me, meditation is simply sitting with myself and bringing my focus to the present moment. It helps me pause and step back from the stream of thoughts and worries filling my mind. I sit comfortably, close my eyes, and focus on something simple—like my breath. Whenever my mind wanders, I gently guide my attention back. Sometimes, it feels like I’m doing this over and over without much effect, but over time, a subtle calm emerges.

With practice, I notice when my body and mind truly relax. Physically, I feel calmer and experience less pain as my nervous system relaxes. Meditation isn’t about doing it “right”—it’s about showing up consistently. Starting my day this way always leaves me feeling grateful for honouring myself.

Heart Medicine

To me laughter is heart medicine. This is something I genuinely have to remind myself to welcome in. Choosing solitude to limit my exposure from the world has shown me that by consciously creating space for laughter, I can tap into a part of myself that allows me to feel and embody all that laughter brings. I’m more of a “laugh on the inside” kind of person, but I have a few go-tos: old comedy shows, chats with my girlfriends, and, of course, my grandkids, saying things that warm my heart and make me giggle long after these moments pass.

This reminds me that healing isn’t only in serious, mindful practices—it’s also in the simple, joyful moments we share. It brings a sense of lightness to the world, and eases discomfort and pain in the body. Thank you, endorphins—that’s true healing in action right there! Gratitude. Laughing doesn’t just lift my mood; it connects me with myself and with life in a deeper way that makes me feel truly alive. In a world that sometimes makes me want to cry or scream, choosing to laugh feels like a quiet rebellion, a glimpse of freedom—freedom from the mind and into the heart.

Human Kangaroo

My rebounder—adding this bouncy beauty to my routine has been pure joy. It’s like sneaking in a workout while feeling like a kid again. Who doesn’t love bouncing around like a human kangaroo? Now I can finally blend in with the locals hopping around the property! Rebounding does wonders for my lymphatic system, giving it a gentle nudge to flush out toxins. I can feel the difference—like a detox without the sweaty, exhausting workouts (which, honestly, aren’t my thing). And since it’s low-impact, my joints are happy too. It’s fantastic for building core strength, improving balance, and boosting circulation.

While I might look like I’m just bouncing around enjoying some tunes or a podcast, my muscles are definitely engaged—just 20 minutes with the kookaburras cheering me on gets my heart pumping. Best of all, it feels so gentle! Before I know it, my time is up, and I can check off my workout, knowing I’ve done something amazing for my body and supported its natural detox process.

Embracing Movement

One of my most enlivening rituals begins with an invigorating cold shower, followed by wrapping myself in a light, natural-fibre sarong and standing barefoot on the earth. Feeling the ground beneath me is both calming and grounding, a gentle reminder of my connection to nature. With soft music playing, I let my body move freely—sometimes slow and gentle, other times with more energy.

Following the rhythm and humming along with my eyes closed, I am fully present in each moment. In this space, I connect deeply with myself, embracing the freedom of simply being. Honouring what my soul craves fills me with a sense of wholeness, reminding me that I am enough, just as I am. It’s a practice that allows me to feel free, grounded and grateful.

What does your soul crave?

Grounding

Grounding is a practice I deeply cherish and make sure to incorporate into my daily routine, which is pretty easy as I hardly ever wear shoes. It’s a wonderfully calming way to connect with the Earth’s energy, bringing numerous benefits like detoxification and pain relief. Walking barefoot on the earth allows me to align my body with the Earth’s energy.

Whenever I am in my pain body, I make sure to spend extra time on the earth. This connection also stabilises the body’s electrical system, promoting balance and overall health. In essence, grounding is a peaceful practice that allows me to reconnect with nature, boost my well-being, and unwind. It’s such a beautiful way to absorb the Earth’s energy—for that, I am grateful.

Mouth Health

I never thought oil pulling and tongue scraping would become part of my morning routine, but here we are. I begin with a spoonful of coconut oil, swishing it around for 10-15 minutes. At first, it feels a bit unusual, but it doesn’t take long to get used to—and I’ve even come to enjoy it. After oil pulling, I move to tongue scraping, removing any overnight build-up from my tongue’s surface. I follow with a thorough brushing, rinse with warm salted water, and finish with fresh water to leave my mouth feeling completely renewed.

These practices go beyond fresh breath; they’re foundational for gut health. The mouth is our digestive system’s entryway, and by removing toxins, bacteria, and food particles each morning, I’m preventing these from reaching my gut, where they could disrupt the delicate balance of gut flora. This daily mouth-care ritual is a simple yet powerful way to support my digestive health. After all, the gut is our second brain, and it deserves our love and care. Here’s to nourishing our bodies, starting from the mouth—one swish, one scrape, one rinse at a time.

Feet Treat

One of my favourite self-care rituals is soaking my feet in warm water with magnesium flakes. It’s such a simple yet powerful practice, and I always feel the benefits afterward. The warmth of the water helps to relax my feet, while the magnesium flakes work wonders for detoxing and replenishing my body with a mineral, we all need.

After soaking, I love using a foot brush to scrub my feet and nails, followed by a pumice stone to gently exfoliate. The scrubbing feels wonderfully soothing and helps stimulate circulation, supporting the detox process. This simple ritual leaves my feet feeling soft and refreshed while also relaxing my entire body. It’s a beautiful way to express gratitude for my feet, which support me every day. Afterward, my feet feel so much lighter, and I finish by massaging nourishing oils into them, adding an extra layer of love.

Fasting

Fasting has been the most transformative part of my self-care routine, from intermittent to autophagy fasting. The transformation is noticeable within just 24 hours, because of this I make it a regular practice, tailoring the type of fast to suit my needs at the time.
The greatest benefits for me are clarity and connection. Fasting sharpens my thinking, eliminates confusion, and brings a sense of calm.

From this clarity, I feel deeply connected—to myself, others, and nature—creating a sense of flow and alignment in my life.
Equally transformative is the reduction in my sensitivity to toxic chemicals. Although I still experience symptoms when exposed, my reactions are milder, and I recover faster.

These two benefits alone make fasting the foundation of my well-being, with the additional perks of increased energy, a more balanced digestive system, and improved hormonal health. What I am mostly grateful for is that fasting allows the body to rest, rejuvenate, and heal—a gift of renewal from within.

The Gift

I read recently that challenges can be seen as gifts—a kind of beautiful feedback system, if we’re willing to view them that way. That idea really stuck with me and got me thinking deeply about everything we take in, both physically and energetically.

It’s not just about the food we eat or the products we use on our skin; it’s also about what we allow into our minds and our emotions. What are we watching? What are we listening to? Who are we listening to? This includes the voice in our own heads—our self-talk. What are we absorbing, consciously and unconsciously.
Everything that enters our bodies and our energy field has the power to shape how we feel and function. Personally, I’ve noticed that when I’m intentional about these things, I naturally feel more aligned, more at ease within myself. And in those moments, regardless of what is going on, it’s the awareness that you are choosing this, even if it means walking away or choosing differently. It’s a reminder that the choices we make in each moment truly matter.

It’s the Gift we can give ourselves

Creative Flow

Getting creative, in whatever form it takes, can be such a powerful way to shift focus and find inspiration. For me, it’s often through writing, designing or working on a creation I’ve thought of. I love the way ideas seem to flow naturally in those moments.

I truly believe creativity is deeply healing. For those of you who’ve ever been “in the zone,” you’ll know exactly what I mean. Everything else fades away, and time seems to fly by in the best way. There’s a magic in being fully present in what you’re doing, whether it’s painting, writing, crafting, cooking, or something entirely your own.
Whatever form your creativity takes, it’s a way of reconnecting with yourself, expressing your inner world, and letting go of whatever’s weighing you down.

When we let our creative side take the lead, it has this beautiful way of reminding us just how capable, imaginative, and alive we truly are.

Ocean Therapy

I love being in the ocean, feeling that I am a part of it. It feels so relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time.

Did you know that negative ions, which are great for our health in so many ways, are found in abundance near crashing water? These ions, naturally created by water, air, sunlight, and the Earth’s radiation, are most concentrated in nature—especially near oceans, waterfalls, and mountains.

In contrast, positive ions, emitted by devices like TVs, phones, computers, and pollution, can harm our health. Nature’s negative ions help balance this exposure, making the ocean just one of nature’s gifts that we can use to recharge and heal. This is why we feel so relaxed when we allow ourselves to “BE” in nature. We are electrical beings, after all.

Music

Music holds a deep, irreplaceable place in my life. Its power to transform my mood within moments is incredible. Sometimes, even when I want to linger in a melancholic state, and I know I need to shift my energy, I’ll push myself to play a playlist that helps me see things more clearly and function better.

Interestingly, I’ve realised there’s a part of me that finds comfort in that familiar, melancholic space. It feels safe, almost soothing, because it lets me connect deeply with my emotions. I’ve noticed that unless my feelings are intense, life can feel a bit flat or uninspired. Music has been a mirror, teaching me so much about how my mind works and how I process emotions.

Because of this, I’ve become more intentional about what I listen to and when, knowing it influences not just my energy but my body as well. I can feel the difference—physically and emotionally—whether it’s a love song tugging at my heartstrings, an upbeat track making me want to dance, or the grounding tones of the 432Hz frequency bringing me back to centre.

For me, music is far more than entertainment. It’s a source of healing, inspiration, and balance—a companion on this journey of self-discovery and connection.
